Elvis Presley Top 10 Songs Memories of Elvis

Elvis Presley Poster Print, 24x36 Poster Print, 24x36Most Popular Elvis Presley Songs

How can anyone decide on the most popular Elvis Presley songs? It totally depends on the type of music you like because he sang songs in many genres. And what can I say about the Elvis, the King of Rock and Roll that hasn't been said? Growing up he was the only singer that my parents ever let us listen to. My mother loved classical music, and Dad played the violin, so mostly we only heard classical music at our house. Mom and Dad made an exception for Elvis though.

For two reasons: One, he was an amazing singer....who sang the best songs ever, and two, he was our cousin. Yes, our cousin! On my father's side. We always knew it growing up, and as I said, we were allowed to hear only Elvis sing because of it. My grand aunt and her husband even took care of Elvis's paternal grandparents in Tupelo (Minnie Mae Hood and her husband Jesse) when they were sick. I have the whole genealogy chart in my computer, as one of my other cousins researches all that stuff and sent it to me..., but in a nutshell here is how it goes. My grandmother was born in Tupelo and it was her sister (My grand aunt Ollie) and her husband who took care of Elvis's grandparents, and my grandmother and all her sisters were Elvis' grand aunts too. Elvis and my father shared great great grandparents! So yes, Elvis and Lisa Marie are my distant cousins.

My cousin sent this to me in a letter: "I will fill in dates, etc later. Aunt Ollie told me many times she took care of Elvis's grandparents in Itawamba County when they had "the fever." This would have been Minnie Mae and Jesse D. Presley. Remember she was married to a Hood in her first marriage."

Proof of My Relationship to Elvis Presley Elvis Presley Biography Facts

For Christmas 2011, my husband got us a subscription to Geni, the Genealogy site. This is the email they sent me.

But even if that were not true, Elvis had the most amazing voice, and he sang amazing songs, and he was an amazing human being by many accounts. It can be hard to remember that with all the negative press about his addiction problems. But his generosity was legendary, as was his devotion to God and family and our country.

This is a page about the most popular Elvis Presley songs, and my memories of Elvis. Enjoy!

Elvis Sang Lots of Gospel Music Most Popular Elvis Presley Songs

Not everyone knows, but Elvis was a devoted Christian and after almost all concerts, he and his band sat around and played Gospel music. After all the stress of live performing, he could not go to sleep right away, so they played the night away. Elvis loved Gospel music and released quite a few Gospel albums. He and his band prayed before and after concerts.

Elvis on His Singing Style

"People ask me where I got my singing style. I didn't copy my style from anybody." ~Elvis Presley

I Remember the Day Elvis Died About Elvis Presley (Bio)

I will always associate Elvis’ death with the death of my sister Penny. She was in an advanced stage of cancer and my parents had written to Elvis about Penny meeting him back stage at a performance. Penny loved Elvis the way die hard groupie fans do. My parents wanted to give that to her before she passed on. But it wasn’t to be, and when Penny found out that Elvis had died, she went into a depression and never came out of it. She died a month and a week later herself. Penny was the sweetest sister in the world. At that time, I had spent most of my life sharing a room with her and was lost when she died. For years I could not listen to Elvis without bursting into tears as his voice reminded me of her.

And the day he died was like a light going out in the world. That voice gone! It was a huge loss. I think a lot of people cried that day.

One of the Worst Days of My Life

He wasn't just the most famous singer in history, he was my cousin! It hurt us all deeply.

I guess it’s normal to be a little starstruck when you find out one of your friends is closely related to a celebrity and my whole life i have amazed my friends when they found out about my Elvis connection. But to us he was family which is even more important.

My 2 sons and my brother are all extremely musical and proud of our Elvis connection too, so when I found an old stack of 45 records when cleaning out the garage, and realized it had at least 25 vintage rare Elvis recordings, I wondered if I should sell them for the thousands of dollars I could get. But the minute I mentioned this to my sons they stopped me immediately. No no no, they said. Are you kidding? Sell Elvis records??? He’s our cousin, we can’t sell them.

I Got To Touch Elvis' Grave at Graceland Elvis Aaron Presley Biography

On the 5th Anniversary of his death I was living in Bartlett, Tennessee, which is on the edge of Memphis where Elvis’ home Graceland is. Like many fans I had wanted to visit Elvis’ home, and that seemed like a good time to do so. But when I got there the line of cars stretched for blocks and the sidewalks were crowded with fans there mourning his death.

I went back a week later and got to walk the grounds, see the inside of the house, visit the garage with all those cars still there, and visit the grave of Elvis and his mother. As a relative I got to stay and sit in the little garden by the grave. I could not resist touching it while crying a few tears that he was gone too soon and that Penny never got to meet him… I had hoped to get to meet him while he was still alive too.

Elvis Was a Philosopher

"Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away." ~Elvis Presley

Elvis Visited My Church in Memphis Elvis Presley Life Story

While in Memphis I went to the Church of Unity downtown. The minister at the time was Bernard Dosier. Very soon after I started going there he told a story about Elvis. It seems Elvis was known for visiting different churches in Memphis. He loved God, Jesus, and Gospel music. Elvis was also known for his amazing generosity. So on this day, a lady there was talking about her need for a new car so that she could visit her husband in the hospital. She mentioned that she had no idea where it would come from but that she was holding the idea of Divine Order. Elvis overheard her and told her she was getting one that day. He took her in his limo back to his personal garage and gave her a Cadillac on the spot. So Elvis had been to the church I attended. I was so sorry I missed that, and so proud of my cousin.

Elvis' Favorite Sandwiches Listen to Elvis Presley Songs While You Cook

Fried Peanut Butter, Jelly and Bacon Fried Peanut Butter and Banana

Elvis loved both of these sandwiches. Here’s how you make them. These are the actual recipes my grand aunt shared with Minnie Mae Hood {Elvis’ Grandmother (Vernon’s mother) who lived with him at Graceland till she died} and our whole family has always eaten them this way too.

Fried Peanut Butter, Jelly and Bacon Sandwiches

First you fry the bread in butter on one side only. Then you put peanut butter and jelly and cooked bacon strips on a toasted side. Top with the toasted side of another slice facing in. At this point the toasted sides are inside with the peanut butter and jelly and bacon. Generously butter the outside of the sandwich on both sides and fry in a frying pan until golden brown. Yum!

Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches

Make them the same way. Start with one sided toast made by frying bread in butter, turn the toasted side in. Generously slather with peanut butter and top with bananas sliced in circles. Cover with another piece of toast (toasted side in.) Then fry in butter. We have always made these in our family too. They are really like a dessert. Sometimes I add in coconut. Double yum. What can I say, I have Southern roots. We love butter!

As if that weren’t enough decadence, we like to serve them with powdered sugar on top, with Sweet Tea. Just like Elvis.

A timeless collectible doll and it's Elvis in one of his iconic jumpsuits! So cool. I'm quite sure this will increase in value as the years go by.

Amazon says: Elvis trivia buffs will know immediately what the white eagle jumpsuit represents. For those who don't, it's what he wore during the "Aloha in Hawaii" concert, which is considered to be the most memorable performance of his career. This January 14, 1973, event was beamed via satellite to over a billion people worldwide. Elvis commissioned the American eagle design specifically for this show, with his intent to deliver his patriotic message worldwide. The white jumpsuit has eagle designs on the chest and sleeves and even an eagle belt buckle. Other details include flared sleeves, legs with red inset panels, a large standup collar, white boots, and a red scarf . Stick the included microphone in his hand, and you can almost hear him singing, "Hound Dog."

Elvis Aaron Presley Biography Elvis Presley Life Story

Elvis Aaron Presley was an American singer and actor. Regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as "the King of Rock and Roll", or simply, "the King". Born: January 8, 1935, Tupelo, Mississippi, United States Died: August 16, 1977, Memphis, Tennessee, United States

He and his family moved to Memphis when he was 13 and he did his first recording when he was 21 years old there in Memphis. Two years later he began making films and two years later he was drafted. But after two years in the Army he was released and went back to making movies and recording albums that went along with the movies. During this time his good looks, and his style of music made him enormously popular all over the world. His film performances were made fun of by all the critics, but it didn't ruin his popularity. In 1968 when he was 35 he returned to TV and live music performing and this led to a Las Vegas contract where he spent many years performing. His broadcast by satellite of his Aloha concert in Hawaii was the first globally broadcast concert in history. He won 3 Grammy awards and a lifetime Grammy. He was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century and was accomplished in Blues, Gospel, and Rock Music, all three. He got involved in drugs and died too young, at 42! But he is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music.

All of that is the public list of facts, but there is also the man, the son, the father, the husband. Elvis loved his parents so much that he moved them into his house in Graceland, and took them to Europe with him when he was in the Army. He loved God and prayed before and after every concert. He was married only once, and stayed connected to his ex wife forever, even after they divorced. His daughter Lisa Marie has said he was an amazing father who never denied her anything and made sure she knew he loved her dearly. He was known for his endless generosity and his kindness. I think all of that is much more meaningful than his drug use could ever be.
